I am excited to announce that Kate Spanos Irish Dance will host a special sean nós dance workshop with Rebecca McGowan from Boston! Rebecca is a dear friend and we are thrilled to have her back in the DC region for the weekend. The workshop will take place on Saturday, May 17 in College Park, MD.
I will also offer a summer intensive focused on Irish traditional set dances. I invite you to dedicate the month of July to learning eight traditional Irish set dances from both CLRG (An Coimisiún Le Rincí Gaelacha) and non-CLRG repertoire. These dances will allow you to experience diverse styles and rhythmic interpretations from various counties throughout Irish dance history, with some set tunes dating back as far as 1700 BC.
This offering aligns with my belief that, as Irish dancers, we need to explore steps and styles from across regions and throughout history, and especially across organizations (or outside of them). This study only makes us more knowledgeable and versatile and inspires respect for the many incredible dancers, teachers, and creators that have contributed to our beloved genre.
I am really excited to share these with you! As with any traditional dance, these are meant to be passed on.
