It’s been busy the past few weeks!
At the end of February, Kate Spanos Irish Dance performed at the Uplift Inspiration Dance Festival hosted by the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC) in Prince George’s County at the historical Publick Playhouse. We performed “Open the Door for Three,” with rejigged (pun intended!) choreography from our previous version of this beautiful festival style slip jig for three dancers. Our performers were Maggie Hensler-McGinnis, Amanda Keiser, and myself.

Then I few off to Berlin for a special weekend intensive, celebrating 25 years since the iconic Irish dance show, “Dancing on Dangerous Ground.” The event was organized by Gyula Glaser and a group of 40 dancers from eight countries gathered to learn material from the show, directly from choreographers and Irish dance legends Colin Dunne and Jean Butler. It was a pleasure to spend a few days wholly focused on learning not only the steps but also the unique style of this material and I met so many lovely dancers!
One of my favorite moments may have been rehearsing the material at 2 a.m. with my loftmates, pictured below with Jean and Colin. The exhaustion was worth it! 🙂
